Who’s Your Cat Daddy?

Happy Father’s Day to all you paternal figures of two and four-legged children. Today I would like to focus on America’s favorite Cat Daddy – Jackson Galaxy, the well-known cat behaviorist on the Animal Planet series “My Cat from Hell”.

His career began when he was working in an animal shelter where he became known as a “cat listener”. After a unique experience calming a room full of screaming cats during a violent storm, Jackson's fascination and empathy toward cats blossomed. A musician, songwriter and actor, Jackson began accessing his creativity to help him rehabilitate stray and surrendered cats.

In 2002, Jackson went into private practice in Boulder, Colorado, founding Little Big Cat, Inc. with Dr. Jean Hofve. Together they gave mind-body consultations to cat guardians, focusing on the connection between physical and behavioral feline health. Jackson also joined Dr. Hofve in the popular Spirit Essences flower essence remedy line, and today he is the owner and president of Spirit Essences.

In 2007, Jackson moved to Los Angeles and has continued his private feline consulting practice. To date he has worked with thousands of cats, both in their homes and in rescue situations. He continues to teach his "Cat's Eye View" classes to the public, as well as to shelter workers, volunteers and veterinary students.

Jackson is also the Official Cat Behaviorist for Game Show Network's "Think like a Cat," and is the Cat Behavior Expert on Animal Planet's "Cats 101" and "America's Cutest Cat."

He recently released his first book entitled “Cat Daddy: What the World’s Most Incorrigible Cat Taught Me about Life, Love, and Coming Clean”. In this book, Jackson tells the poignant story of his thirteen-year relationship with a cat named Benny.

When Benny arrived in his life, Jackson was a down-and-out rock musician with not too much more going on than a part-time job at an animal shelter and a drug problem. Benny’s previous owner insisted he’d been “unbondable” from day one, but nothing could have been further from the truth.

An inspiring account of two broken beings who fixed each other, Cat Daddy is laced throughout with Jackson’s amazing “Cat Mojo” advice for understanding what cats need most from humans in order to live happier, healthier lives.
